Digitization funded by The National Library of Israel. A Jewish man wanted R. Isidor Kalisch to convert a gentile woman whom he wanted to marry, which Kalisch did, against his better judgment; immediately after they married, the man decided he wanted a divorce, and Kalisch would have nothing to do with it. Joseph Levy, who had received semikhah in Europe, convened a bet din and granted the divorce. Kalisch raised a furor, which made it into the American press and even reached Europe (A.
