This collection contains questionnaires issued by the Central Organization of Hungarian Jews in Budapest in 1939. The goal of these questionnaires, was to prove whether or not Jews were Hungarian citizens. They had to be able to prove their Hungarian citizenship back to 1867. This was one of the first anti-Jewish laws passed. They had to provide personal information (name, birthdate, birthplace, whether they served in the military), as well as birth, marriage, and death information for their parents and grandparents. There are additional letters addressed to the rabbinate asking for data concerning individuals, since in this community rabbis maintained community records.
