Abstract/Description: The David J. Putterman Music Collection consists of cantorial music manuscripts from Russia, Europe and the United States, ca. 1874-19--; American synagogue music manuscripts, ca.1925-1968; and American archival material, ca.1920-1952. The Park Avenue Synagogue Music Collection consists of Putterman's papers, 1920-1979. A large portion of the papers show his organization of Park Avenue's annual Sabbath Eve contemporary music service, 1943-1976. There appears to be a complete set of scores for all these years. There is also correspondence with participating composers; promotional photos; and composer biographies. There are archival recordings of many of the annual services, 1956-1975. There are also archival sound disk recordings (78, 33 RPM) of Putterman's Jewish radio broadcasts, 1938-1950.
