Hillel Bavli was born in Lithuania in 1893. He came to the Jewish Theological Seminary in 1919 and taught Bible, Hebrew and Modern Hebrew literature for more than 40 years. He was a Zionist and wrote Hebrew poetry. Bavli died in 1961.
