Abstract/Description: The Alexander Shapiro Papers consists of subject files, correspondence, appointment books, audio tapes, and awards and certificates. These materials cover periods in his personal and professional life; his years as a college, rabbinical, and graduate student, 1950-1970; his service as a chaplain in the Army Reserve, 1955-1963; his academic teaching positions, ca.1970-1973; his service as a congregational rabbi, 1957-1992; and his work as an officer of the Rabbinical Assembly of America, 1976-1986. Fully one half of the collection consists of subject files accumulated during his years in the pulpit of Oheb Shalom Congregation, South Orange, New Jersey, 1972-1992.
