We are informed that forty-four houses were burned down in a very short time, the people were only able to save their bare lives by leaving through windows with the help of ladders. An old man and an old woman were burnt to death. The appeal, dated April 28, bears six printed signatures of the Rabbis Solomon Mintz, Moses Menaḥem Merari, Jacob Ḥai Levi, Jacob Belilios, Simḥa Calimani and Jacob Saraval." JTS Archives 1931.
