|Abstract/Description:||16th conference on science, philosophy, and religion. Part 1 of a discussion on the interplay of great traditions in political conduct. Our traditions and backgrounds offer us moral guidelines to adhere to when answering the ethical questions spontaneously posed to us. Eastern religions have ethical guidelines to offer their own adherents, but they do not fit the mold of a traditional western religion. Confucianism is a way for different groups to relate to each other, and Buddhism is a way of life that guides conduct. Eastern religious practices are growing to meet the new problems found in the evolving eastern society and its particular concern. This is true of western religions as well. Juvenile delinquency is a common problem, west and east, and we can draw from our own particular past to have a deeper understanding of the issue so that we may address it today and in the future.|
