Abstract/Description: | Three letters of recent immigrants from Eastern Europe to U.S. presidents. In the first Letter, 1887 Purim, J. Wistinetzki of Troy greets President G. Cleveland on his fiftieth birthday in Hebrew; in the second letter, also in Hebrew, Philadelphia, 1893 August 25, M. Ṿindḳas recounts to President Cleveland how several young men beat him while a policeman looked on, and requests that he protect every person living in the United States; S. Sagalovich?, Philadlephia, 1898 25 April, addresses President W. Mckinley in Yiddish in the third letter. |

Wistinetzki/Wistinetzky (1844-1908) was born and schooled in Lithuania, lived for a while in Troy, Buffalo, and New York City, and returned to Lithuania, settling in Vilna. He edited ספר חסידים על פי נוסח כתב יד אשר בפארמא (Berlin, 1891; 2d ed.: Frankfort o/M, 1924).
